In May 2025, Raízes do Desterro was born, a tourism initiative driven by the desire to build a more black, conscious, and connected Florianópolis with its ancestries.
Founded by two black tour guides, the initiative emerges as a response to the invisibility of the stories and contributions of the Afro-descendant population in the construction of the Island of Santa Catarina.
With a focus on Afro-tourism, Raízes do Desterro proposes itineraries that cross time and unveil forgotten layers of the city, revealing erased memories and celebrating legacies of resistance, culture, and black spirituality.
Each tour is an experience, an opportunity to reconnect with the land, with history, and with oneself.
The initiative carries in its name the memory of the old name of Florianópolis, Desterro, also honoring the Afro-Brazilian roots that sustain the culture of the Island. More than just tourist tours, the itineraries of Raízes do Desterro are invitations to a new type of tourism: an anti-racist, educational, and transformative tourism.
