It was so beautiful to hit the road to connect us to our ancestry and our future at the same time!
We visited several communities to support the development of new afrotourism itineraries in the region
We weren't going to say goodbye to 2022 without recording this incredible experience we had this month!
Between December 9th and 11th, we visited several quilombola communities in Mato Grosso, invited by @afroutoursagencia to share and exchange knowledge to promote #afrotourism in the region!
It was so beautiful to hit the road to connect with our ancestry and our future at the same time! Gratitude to Poliana Queiroz and Bianca Rondon and the entire team involved in the project!
We started our journey in Quilombo de Jejum, where we were received in Vanda's backyard, leader of the Women's Association AMUNERUQ. Under the shade of the Mango tree, we talked about the potential for tourist visitation in the community.
Then, we went to Chumbo, where the leader Sofia led us to visit the community's heritage sites, such as the raizeiros, represented by the living ancestor of the community, Mr. Sebastião.
In Poconé, our hostesses Julia, Bianca, and Isabella showed us ancestral backyards, with ancestral worship and parties that move the entire community! We visited Dona Apolônia's house, and experienced a small immersion in Siriri and Cururu, singing, playing, and ministered by Mr. Lidio.
To end with a flourish, we visited Quilombo Morrinho, a moment marked by the emotional prayer to Saint Benedito in the Church of the same Saint.
So much ground covered! The stories and memories of these territories inspire the power of #Afrotourism built by the communities! Long live the future!
